Nearly $20 Billion in Unemployment Benefits Paid in "Error"
Actually just shy of $19 billion in unemployment benefits were paid in error for a three year period ending in June, according to the US Labor Department. This is more than 10% of total unemployment benefits paid over the three year period which is roughly $180 billion.
The ominous Labor Department has hatched a lackluster plan to crack down on the improper payments, specifically targeting Virginia, Indiana, Colorado, Washington, Louisiana and Arizona for their high rate of error. The Labor Department's desire is to see the payments made in error dip below 10% for 6 months, then they will turn their head as usual. In effect they hope to reduce the figure by a small amount and claim some sort of political victory in the on-going charade of attempting to tackle the government waste.
While it is a step in the right direction it is on par with everything aimed at saving this failing recovery... too little too late.
all i can say is wow, 10 percent seems like a huge margin of error
