Large Earthquake in Northeast Japan


A very large earthquake has been detected off the coast of northeastern Japan at about 38.0 degrees north latitude and 143.5 degrees east longitude. This is just over 200km from the coast of Japan. The earthquake's magnitude has been estimated to be 7.1 - 7.3 depending on the source and location. Tsunami warnings have been issued for three Japanese prefectures: Iwate, Fukushima, and Miyagi. This quake was reported to have occurred at 00:57 GMT. As of yet Tokyo Power Company has reported no damage or major issues and no injuries have yet been reported.
